From One Extreme to the Other

Before the rain started last week, our big pasture was beginning to look like West Texas. I’d never seen it so brown and dry.

Our small paddocks were just as bad. Even with careful rotation, it was hard to keep any grass growing.

About a week ago, we got the wonderful moisture that we needed, and the grass is turning green again. But with all of this rainy weather, the horses have been spending more time in the ring so that we can preserve our pastures and keep them from getting too muddy. Β I decided to create a temporary lane from the barn to the ring to make it easier to get them there. The horses are happy to pause along the way and eat some grass.

In the ring, the horses are gazing out at all that nice wet grass that is growing again.
